Summer Jubilee Sew Along Week 5 from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hi Quilters!

Welcome to week 5 of the Summer Jubilee Sew Along!

We are almost to the finish line.  By now, you have made all of the blocks, and now it is time to assemble your quilt top!

This will be an easy and fun week.

If you didn't press your blocks as you were making them, now is the time to do that.  Pressed blocks sew together better.

I recommend pressing the seams open as indicated in the pattern, but if you press your seams to the side, you can get flatter seams by placing the blocks under ...

Summer Jubilee Sew Along Week 3 from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hi Quilters,

Welcome to Week 3 of the Summer Jubilee Sew Along!

By now, you have made your Starburst blocks, and now we are ready to dive into the Rosette Blocks!

Chain piecing will be your friend this week as we make all the little units that will become the Rosette blocks.

These blocks may feel complicated, but they consist of blocks you are probably already really familiar with:  half square triangles (HSTs) and Flying Geese (FGs).

The HSTs are made 8 at a time, and the FGs are made 4 at a time so you can create the units ...

This week we are cutting our fabrics and will begin assembling the units to make our Starburst blocks.

I love to start with a fresh blade and usually begin with cutting the background first since this usually has the most cuts (and honestly, it keeps me motivated to keep cutting since the prints are the most fun to cut, right?

There are fabric labels provided for you ...

Holiday Weekend and a New Quilt from Sew Preeti Quilts

Hope you had a good holiday celebration!

I have some good news and I promise I will get to it. But please let me whine first. After all, if I don't do it here, where can I?

In Yorktown

Paul and I decided to visit Colonial Williamsburg so we made hotel reservations a few weeks in advance. The plan was to spend July 4th in Yorktown, July 5th in Williamsburg, and July 6th in Jamestown.

I booked us a sailboat cruise (6:30 - 8:30) on the York river, after which we could watch the fireworks. As we drove ...

When independence was officially declared, John Adams wrote: “[This day] will be the most memorable in the history of America. It ought to be [celebrated] with pomp and parade, games, sports, and [fireworks] forever more.” His 4th of July plans were so much fun, we’ve celebrated John Adams-style for 245 years!

But there’s just one thing Mr. Adams forgot: Quilts! Every good holiday needs quilts!

Weekly update: the pond is filling up on this holiday weekend from With Strings Attached

This post is being composed from the shady comfort of our patio.  This is the third afternoon I've sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. There's just enough breeze from the northeast (Lake Michigan, a mile away) to make it very pleasant.

If this were a normal year we'd have celebrated Independence Day with a concert in the park followed by fireworks.  Our neighborhood was likely like yours -- lots of firecrackers and a few fireworks being set off in the street this year.  (There have been firecrackers nearly every evening for weeks. We can hear them loud ...
